Recap from the presser at 12pm today

  • Today there are 940 (compared to 996 yesterday) known primary close contacts related to the Holiday Inn in Melbourne Airport.
    • Of the 940 today, 129 are direct family, workplace and other immediate close contact. This is the closest ring to those cluster members at the moment.
      • Of that 129, 127 have tested negative and 2 further test results are due shortly.
  • Foley says ALL national benchmarks for contact tracing of primary close contacts have been "reached and exceeded" over the past week.
  • All 12 work colleagues at Brunetti Melb Airport have tested negative. 19 of 34 are interstate. 15 are in Victoria, 13 of those have returned negative results.
  • A focus on a young case, a 3-year-old child at the good start early learning Centre in Glenroy who was also at two of the swimming pool locations.
    • From the Presser: "The mother has returned three separate test results in the last 24 hours, all with differing conclusions and our epidemiologist and specialists are working with her and with our labs to be clear about the nature of what possible infection she may have, whether she is at the start of our infectious period or whether she is coming towards the end. Serology is being done and we will work out over the next few hours exactly where this individual stands. She does have some workplace contacts, particularly with Alfred Health and we are working closely with them to do preliminary testing, precautionary testing, really, of her potential contacts and has all been done, some of it has been done already and I spoke to the CEO early yesterday -- early today, a control process in place to manage that and again if this does turn out to be a possible case then we already have those appropriate steps on hand to work through."
  • Viral fragments found in Reservoir, Southbank, South Melbourne wastewater:
    • Victoria’s COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar has urged residents of Melbourne’s north and south to be vigilant after viral fragments were found in wastewater in Coburg and South Melbourne: “We have two detections that we are currently investigating. One is in the Coburg catchments which takes in Coburg, Coburg North, and the other is in the south of Melbourne, that Punt Road, Clarendon Street area, which we are keen to understand more of,” he said."

  • ➡️ Circuit breaker action:
    • From 11:59pm on 12 February new circuit breaker actions will be in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 across Victoria:
    • This means that you cannot leave your home unless you are doing it for one of the following four reasons: shopping for necessary goods and services; care and caregiving; exercise; and essential work.
    • You must stay within 5km of your home. This limit does not apply to work or when giving or receiving care.
    • You can leave your home in an emergency or if there is family violence.
    • Face masks will need to be worn indoors and outdoors whenever you leave your home.
    • For more information see:
  • ➡️ Greater Melbourne Area declared a hotspot for Commonwealth support:
    • The Australian Government Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly, has today declared the Greater Melbourne Area a COVID-19 hotspot for the purposes of Commonwealth support, for an initial period of three days from 11:59pm on 12 February 2021.
    • Declaring a hotspot for Commonwealth support triggers the following (if required):
      • provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) from the National Medical Stockpile
      • actions for aged care facilities including PPE, single site workforce supplement and integration of an aged care response centre into the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre
      • assistance with contact tracing
      • asymptomatic testing via General Practice Respiratory Clinics.
    • Read more about listing areas as COVID-19 hotspots.
  • ➡️ International flights to Melbourne have also been paused, as per a statement from the Victorian government:
As part of the circuit breaker action taken today, we have paused all international passenger flights from tomorrow - excluding those already in transit.
We know this will be difficult news for people who are overseas and want to get home but our focus right now has to be taking this short, sharp action in response to this outbreak.
We will continue to assess the impact of the UK strain of the virus on our program and international arrivals, and will provide more information on the duration of this pause soon.

♦️🎥 12:30PM pressemedia release recap:

  • The additional case, reported this morning, is a social primary close contact, a friend of one of the Holiday Inn workers
    • Andrews: "Overnight and within eight hours of that test coming to us, all 38 household primary social close contacts of that person have been contacted, have been locked down, and we have already begun the process of testing each of those 38 people. That will be a big focus of our efforts today and we hope to be able to report negative results, and all results, I should say, as soon as they come to us, most likely a feature of tomorrow’s briefing. It will be a very big focus, to get those people tested, through the labs and ruled them out."
  • Head of Victoria’s coronavirus response, Jeroen Weimar, says the latest case is a man in his 30s in the Point Cook area who is a primary close contact of a hotel quarantine worker who has already tested positive.
  • There are now 996 identified close contacts of the Holiday Inn outbreak in isolation. Number will keep on growing because as DH find more people, more come forward, QR codes, interviews and contact tracing, not a bad in, but exactly what you want, finding more and more people and putting a public health response around them.
    • Most of the test results of those people are expected in the next two days.
    • Of the 996 primary close contacts:

  • Premier says PM has agreed to suspend flights to Melbourne during the circuit-breaker period. 5 more flights will arrive between now and Midnight, 100 passengers are on board.

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲:

Late Sunday evening, NSW Health released a public health alert regarding new locations that had been visited by a new case of COVID-19 [also see update]. This is a novel situation for NSW, as the person did not test positive during HQ, however tested positive shortly after release. Although the individual was asymptomatic, they sought testing at NSW Health's request, following the implementation of day 16 testing.
As of 12/02: Media release
Investigations continue into the source of infection of a returned overseas traveller from the Wollongong area who tested positive for COVID-19 after being released from hotel quarantine. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
Genomic testing results indicate this case is not related to any other cases in hotel quarantine at the same time. Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the case, including the possibility that it is an old infection from overseas.
As of 10/02: Source of Infection - Gladys Berejiklian
"That one person who was tested positive on day 17 of arriving in Australia is unlikely to have contracted it in quarantine.""So the best advice is that it's either an old infection or else the person obviously has had an unusually longer incubation period which can happen...""It is unlikely to have been acquired in quarantine, but it does show the risks that are posed and it does show the vigilance of our NSW Health team and making sure that we not only test people on days 2 and 12 but also follow them up post quarantine in certain circumstances to make sure that there aren't lingering lingering infectiousness in people who are leaving the quarantine system."
Quick facts:
  • Returned overseas traveller from Wollongong tested positive to COVID-19 after being released from hotel quarantine at the Sofitel Wentworth:
    • Arrived from South America on January 19
    • Returned two negative tests on day 2 [21/01] and day 12 [31/01] of HQ
    • Released from HQ on February 2
  • NSW Health contacted the person late on Thursday February 4 as part of the day 16 follow-up:
    • Individual was asymptomatic
    • Sought testing the following afternoon [5/02]
    • Notification of positive result on the night of Saturday 6 February
    • The person was contacted, interviewed by NSW Health, isolated, and re-tested, with those results re-confirming a positive detection on Sunday 7 February.
  • Has anyone else tested positive?
    • All 10 close contacts have returned negative test results.
    • All other returned travellers who stayed on the same floor in the Sofitel Wentworth during this time are being contacted by NSW Health to be tested if they have not already as part of the day-16 testing program.
Note: As part of the day 16 testing, if individuals do not show symptoms they are not required to isolate while they await the results of this test.

A Guppy view on Medical Treatments: Healthia

This is my first DD ive posted here - to the OG ASX_Bets fellas, I welcome all critiques as although I talk like i have a massive schlong - i am but a small whale - Im still learning this game and have MAD respect for your thoughts and critical thinking.
With that disclaimer out the way... here we go
Healthia - Better Health. Better Lives (ASX:HLA)
SP as of writing 1.770
Market Cap $166mln
Ive been eyeing out Healthia for a little while and i thought ye fuck it its just not dipping and their recent announcement keeps things promising so im gonna jump in.
Healthia Limited is a group of health based companies offering a range of services like podiatry, physiotherapy, rehab shit. They formed to bring together health brands like AllSports Physio and FootDr Podiatry (kinda like franchises of health services)
Think of it as aspiring to be the Unilever of feet.
They seem to consistently have agreements and acquisitions of smaller physios and such across the country. Even just recently they entered a few agreements to acquire physios in South Australia and Victoria and are also opening a new clinic in Bundaberg offering bunch of services. These aquisitions look to be happening from this quarter ish?
but keep going through the announcements they been buying up stuff like mad. Mostly it seems that they issuing new shares as a form of payment.
This is wonderful Stinky - but who gives a flying fish stick?
ye hold on you raging crab im getting there ffs.
All these acquisitions are continually adding to a fairly hefty EBITDA. I mean it aint the organic growth of AVA thats currently though the roof but they already presenting some STRONG (imo) organic growth.
Looking at their 2020 Financial year highlights:
What made me decide to jump was that their H1 FY2021 (unaudited) results came in recently and its showing more strong organic growth. ... like we talking 80%+ increase in underlying EBITDA.
The key health markets these guys are going after is clearly podiatry and physiotherapy but they also have the feet in the manufacture of insoles (via 3D printing techniques) Optometry and alike - it equates to a total addressable market of $4bln (source: my uncle is really into feet)
Im still not convinced Stinky - wheres the magic - where the rockets?
All shell and no lobster ey?
Well the way im seeing it - These numbers were achieved during the HEIGHT of COVID in Australia.
Im feeling that these guys obviously got a decent game plan going - the SP has been growing fairly steadily without much volume and recently tipped $2 before a small dip (which i was like ye ok now is the time)
Their audited results are to be released on 25th Feb
Oh did i mention that they even paying dividends? To me thats always a good sign of things to come.
In a year were it seems that most of the health care sector have been dumped in the shit (especially hands on like physio) these guys have come out smelling pretty fresh.
It may not be a rocket ship... I dont expect swings of 50% in a day but i do expect it to start catching eyes in the coming months.
Oh last thing - I briefly touched on the 3D printed orthotics - the company owns iOrthotics which is a joint venture to print insoles in the US. Its been hampered by COVID pretty bad but they geared to grow nicely when things start to open up a bit more.
Tell me im retarded and should stick to pumping saltwater - fair enough. its still going to be a better earnings than your Vanguard ETF.
Obligatory: not financial advice do your own research
Personal Holding: 4500 @ 1.78 Holding some capital in case it dips a little further to which ill average down a bit
Mods: feel free to reflair as dumbfuck
TLDR: I might have a foot fetish

Snap lockdown talks as Victoria on the brink of third wave

From Herald Sun:
James Campbell and Josh Fagan
Authorities fear Victoria is on the brink of the third COVID-19 wavewith high-level discussions on Thursday night under way regarding the introduction of a snap lockdown.
State government advisers were on Thursday instructed to draw up a framework for another lockdown, which could be introduced as early as Friday night, or possibly within days.
It comes amid significant concern over virus fragments detected in wastewater in several areas across Melbourne, understood to be mainly in the northern suburbs.
A source close to Emergency Management Victoria told the Herald Sun authorities feared they had lost control of the outbreak.
The source said there were deep concerns at the failure of contact tracers to match information they had been given by confirmed cases and their close contacts with what the results of sewage testing was showing about the virus’s spread.
The emergency agency was described as being in “pandemonium”.
Early on Friday morning a new location - Brunetti in Terminal 4 of Melbourne Airport - was added to the Tier 1 exposure sites (see below).
Anyone who visited Brunetti over an 8.5 hour period from 4.45am to 1.15pm on February 2 must immediately isolate, get a test, and quarantine for 14 days.
It is understood that Thursday night’s discussions, which included Premier Daniel Andrews, were heated.
The key concern was that Victoria could be battling an outbreak of the British mutant strain, which has proven much more transmissible than those which devastated Victoria last year.
Health officials are working on the assumption that all cases connected to the Holiday Inn outbreak, which ballooned to 13 infections on Thursday, involve the mutant bug.
Genomic testing has confirmed six of the cases, including the family of three considered the “index cases”, have been infected with the strain and results were pending for the others.
The restrictions could be similar to the recent five-day lockdown in Western Australia, where residents in Perth and two other regions were only allowed to leave home for an hour to exercise with a mask within 5km, or if they were an essential worker, needed groceries or medical supplies, were receiving health care or were supporting someone with needs.
Schools, gyms and cinemas were also shut, while restaurants and cafes could only serve takeaway.
Such restrictions would signal an end to crowds at the Australian Open, although it was not clear on Thursday night whether the grand slam would continue, as the players had endured a 14-day quarantine and could be placed in “secure bubbles”.
Five new cases emerged as part of the Holiday Inn outbreak on Thursday, including the husbands of two food and beverage attendants who worked at the Melbourne Airport hotel.
In an 11pm tweet, the Department of Health confirmed the latest two cases were “household primary close contacts” of existing cases.
It marked the first cases of transmission outside the quarantine system.
Victoria’s testing commander, Jeroen Weimar, said it was still “early days” in the outbreak.
“This is by no means over, we are still in the opening quarter of the Holiday Inn outbreak I’m afraid,” he said.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do to really make sure we pull this one up.
“What is more challenging with this one is it’s the UK variant so we don’t yet know how easily it transmits when you get into the second and third generation of people catching it. That’s going to be the challenge for us now and over the coming days.”
Authorities have deemed 400-500 people close contacts of confirmed cases, including Holiday Inn workers, returned travellers who were staying there and people linked to exposure sites.
The original COVID-positive family that triggered the outbreak were transferred from the Holiday Inn to a medi-hotel on February 4.
The health department said anyone at the hotel for more than 15 minutes between January 27 and February 9 was considered a primary close contact and was urged to self-isolate, get a test and stay in isolation for 14 days.
Camberwell Grammar was closed on Thursday as a non-teaching staff member had tested positive. It is not clear whether that member was among the 13.
Mr Weimar said on Thursday contact tracing efforts were being focused on the Sunbury area. Several businesses were listed as exposure sites.
The health department said anyone at the hotel for more than 15 minutes between January 27 and February 9 was considered a primary close contact and was urged to self-isolate, get a test and stay in isolation for 14 days.
A community meeting was held in Sunbury on Wednesday night and Mr Weimar said contact tracing efforts were focused on that area.
Patrons who visited at the same time as an infected food and beverage worker were told to get tested and isolate.
Authorities had issued an alert on Wednesday night for the broader Sunbury Square Shopping Centre, asking anyone who visited from 3.40pm to 4.30pm on February 4, to get tested and isolate until they get a negative result. An osteopathic clinic in Avondale Heights in the city’s northwest was among the sites visited by one COVID-positive case, however was not included on the exposure sites as all clients were contacted directly.

Hosting Mardi Gras party.. need ideas..

Hey... we are hosting a Mardi Gras party at our house. I want to deck the house out and make it totally camp & fun... looking for ideas. We have around 40 people coming (we are in Australia, we have very few covid cases, the party is legal), so even some ideas on drinking games etc that would work with this many people.
Here’s what I have already underway...
Game: Roxanne drinking game.
Theme: Using rainbow textbook cover to laminate the entire floor inside the house. (The floors are all tiled so this won’t be an issue to put down/remove
7ft unicorn for the backyard
Grindr photo frame around bathroom mirrors.
Rainbow cups, rainbow hand-soap, rainbow towels.
Large mirror ball to hang over the front door with an “Oxford st” sign at the front door.
We have a spare room I was considering converting into some type of themed room?
Open to any cool ideas really!?

It’s not all about contact tracing, round 2.

Seems like people, particularly Melbournians who are fond of the NSW model are angrily discussing about Victoria’s decision to make a snap five day lockdown. My question to these individuals, is why?
As pointed out in my other respect thread, there are many sufficiencies and insufficiencies with both the contact trace til it dies and the lockdown model.
Even then New South Wales hasn’t dealt with a UK strain leak (from as far as I know, I will remove this if I am wrong), so their track and trace model could cope as a vast amount of individuals end up being infectious later on in the virus cycle.
Victoria is ultimately in a different situation, even different to WA, SA and QLD.
First of all, we have had an individual who unknowingly breached quarantine protocols by bringing an unauthorised medical device which he unknowingly spread COVID vapour into the air, thus stirring the coronastew pot by a ten fold. Individuals wearing PPE by then would still be infected.
Then whilst linked, we have had cases spread from the workers to close contacts and even then, what’s more alarming is Weimar’s statement on how fast the incubation period of the virus is. If you weren’t there for the conference:
Guard A was working in the Holiday Inn, they tested at work on the 7th and tested negative via a PCR test. They then were instructed to isolate on the 8th, and got retested by the 9th. Guard A was positive on the 9th but by then not only were the guard’s close contacts positive, their secondary contacts were also positive AND infectious.
We have so far seen no scenario like this occurring in any setting in Australia, so why are we once again comparing state by state strategies when they aren’t emulating the exact same scenario. (Dan Andrews comparing interstate/VIC hotel quarantine strategies, in terms of daily testing, PPE control is different to comparing a hotel quarantine leak and outbreak).
Victoria now faces a critical future, which hopefully they can keep under control. What we need now is positivity, and a willingness to do what we need to do. To keep us to stay safe, and stay open.
Also to all our interstate counterparts. Victorians did it harsh in Winter of last year for your own benefit. They will continue to do the same this time round. Respect their reactions, don’t hate. We do not need an America/UK situation.
PS. Peeved that the UK strain is actually a thing, if Boris didn’t screw around, none of this would’ve happened. Grr.

As of 11am 11/02; no new information. Awaiting further test results.
Initially, NSW Health advised that [07/02]:
Investigations to date suggest the infection was likely acquired overseas and there is no indication at this stage that there was transmission in the hotel quarantine setting. [source]
Since then, NSW Health has advised [08/02]:
NSW Health is undertaking an extensive investigation into the source of a new COVID-19 case, including the possibility of transmission within a hotel quarantine facility. [source]
The case is currently classified as 'under investigation', however the Federal Government have recorded the case as locally acquired [see short video at top of Monday's post].

AITA for asking my mother and step-dad to change their 'make up honeymoon' dates around?

A few months ago my mum and her finance got married, and unfortunately their honeymoon was cut short because my sister had to go into hospital for major surgery. For reference, where I live there have been almost no cases of community transmission of covid for several months, and it is permitted to travel interstate without quarantining (I (26F) live in Australia, but I won't say what state).
** Tl;dr: mum and Step dad are taking a family friend's upcoming wedding as an opportunity to have a mini honeymoon since theirs was cut short due to my sisters emergency surgery. I can't afford to stay in that area alone, but they chose one of the more expensive hotels so the cost of dividing it 3x way is even more expensive than the already costly single hotel stay. I'm the only one allowed to rent a car (it's needed to get to the wedding) so they're relying on me staying with them (or close to). **
My mum and Step dad do not have any holidays available at work because they took all their time off for their honeymoon. In two months we will be travelling interstate for a family friends wedding, and the three of us will get a hotel, flight, and car hire.
I was sent a link to the hotel and it very expensive. I'm unemployed, so between flights and car hire, I can spare maybe $50. This hotel would set me back $250 alone. It's obvious they are getting this place to make up for their lost honeymoon (it really is stunning), so I feel terrible about asking them to get a cheaper place. My mum was absolutely devastated they weren't able to get a refund for their honeymoon and she can't get more time off work, so they are using this opportunity for a nice getaway.
I had a conversation with mum and told her I was going to book elsewhere, however I would have to stay close to them because I'm the only one who can rent a car (and we definitely need it to get to the wedding). However, all the hotels and air bnbs in that area are expensive for one person, but of course cheaper for three people. So I asked them to please book elsewhere so we could split the cost, but they don't want to, saying this might be their only chance all year to have a getaway. I got annoyed and told them that I would simply book elsewhere and forget about the car and walk to the venue myself to save costs.
Was I TA for asking them to rebook? They haven't paid a deposit.

Why would they ever let things get back to normal?

I live in the U.S., in a relatively free state. I refuse to wear a mask, which does shut some doors (for instance, I haven’t flown in a year), but principles are that important to me. I understand other people often have no choice but to wear a mask if they want to stay employed, and I sympathize with them.
In the last year, governments around the world have tested us and we have “passed” every single test. Whatever shit they’ve served up, society has swallowed and asked for seconds. I don’t need to list all the restrictions and infringements here, first because you’re familiar with them and second because I’d run out of room.
There’s no numerical endgame here. The Governor of New Jersey – home to the worst death rates this side of China – has said COVID-19 must be eradicated. Not controlled, eradicated. A single case is too many. Shit, a single case shut Western Australia down, or at least Perth.
Health authorities and heads of government have received next to no pushback. The restrictions just get more ridiculous, contradictory, and invasive. So why would governments ever stop? When the citizens have turned out to be more compliant than even Kim Il-Sung ever dreamed of – not just doing what they’re told, but mask-shaming and trying to cancel the few sane ones among us – why *wouldn’t* governments tighten the screws even more? Tens of millions of Americans own guns and yet our tyrants remain in office, spreading tyranny. And none of them seem too worried about being voted out of office.
We can’t all move to Sweden, Florida, or South Dakota.
I do my part. I don't wear a mask, I laugh at those who do, I patronize businesses that cater to barefaces. I live my life as best I can, even though some things I used to really enjoy are gone indefinitely. If everyone did the same, this bullshit would end tomorrow. WE OUTNUMBER THE RULING CLASS, handily. But that doesn't seem to matter.
I don’t mean to sound like a doomer but how do we get things back to normal without it taking decades or centuries?

Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic does it work?

Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic reviews show it is designed to be easy to use, according to a report from Cindy Walters of Researched Reviews. It comes in powdered form and can be added to a drink of any kind to make a tonic that helps to fight weight gain at the source.
Cindy Walters states, “There is a protein known as CRP or C-reactive protein that blocks fat burning. This protein hurts the digestive process and the body’s metabolism, and the Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic targets it specifically. By using herbs and other natural ingredients in Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic, it will help with weight loss in a safe and effective manner. It reduces the CRP levels and ensures that it is easier for people to lose weight and keep the weight off. “
Ms. Walters also says, “To increase weight loss efforts, users should also try the following:”
  • Stop smoking
  • Regularly exercise
  • Eat healthy
  • Stop drinking alcohol
Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic powder reacts with adiponectin, a component in the body that turns food into energy rather than storing it up as fat. This boosts the metabolic functions and ensures that the metabolism works unhindered, keeping fat from being stored up.
  • Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic reviews show it encourages fat burning, and it draws from the fat stores in the body to make it easy to shed excess weight.
  • It also boosts the user’s energy levels. This happens as the fat is burned up, and that is converted into usable energy. This boosts energy levels so that the user feels more energetic and vital.
  • This tonic is made from natural herbs and a variety of spices that work together to boost a variety of body functions while fighting inflammation. It is vital that it works on the inflammation problem that many people suffer during the digestive process. If inflammation is allowed to get out of control, it can make certain health problems even worse and make it harder for people to lose weight. Inflammation can also cause people to feel unwell, making it difficult for them to exercise or eat healthy.
  • Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic also helps with cardiovascular health. It can lower blood pressure and boost heart health, specifically the health of the arteries. Using Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic creates a chain reaction after food is eaten. The formula can get rid of CRP in the body and help the body to burn more fat than usual. By boosting metabolism, even in a state of resting, users can lose more weight quickly without undergoing any harmful weight loss methods.

Ms. Walters states, “It should be noted that this formula is not a cure for any medical problem, including obesity. It can help with weight loss but results are not guaranteed. It is even more effective at helping with these goals when it is paired with healthy eating habits and regular exercise.”

Update: new positive cases linked to Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport

Earlier today the department was alerted to two further individuals linked to the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport who have tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19): a worker, and a previous resident who exited the facility on February 7. These two cases will be reported in tomorrow’s numbers.
This takes the number of cases linked to the Holiday Inn outbreak to eight. This includes three index cases, three workers and two residents.
There may be exposure sites linked to the previous resident. Interviews are underway, and any sites will be published online at Case locations and outbreak page as soon as possible.
There are currently no exposure sites linked to the hotel quarantine worker.
Our public health response to this outbreak continues. If you have symptoms, get tested. If you have been to any current exposure sites in Victoria, get tested and stay isolated for 14 days.
For testing locations, visit the Where to get tested page.

🎥 - Presser recap

Holiday Inn cases:
  • First case (authorised officer):
    • Tested positive on the 7 February.
    • Identified eight social and primary close contacts of that authorised officer.
    • Six of them have so far tested negative and once DH get the balance of those tests, again, updates will be made.
  • Second case (HQ worker - food and beverage attendant):
    • Last worked on the 4 February and tested negative at the end of her shift.
    • She developed symptoms on the 6 February.
    • On the 8 February she was advised that she was a primary close contact related to the previous identified exposure at the Holiday Inn and was as such required to isolate and get a test.
    • She got tested on the morning of the ninth and returned a positive result.
    • During the time she was infectious, she was at a number of sites in the Sunbury area and those others Tier one exposure sites that we have listed on the website
    • So far identified 13 social and household primary close contact linked in this case.
    • Each of them have been contacted, they are isolating at home.
    • There are several high-risk individuals within that cohort.
    • Last night as part of our rapid public health response, we arranged for them to be tested after hours, a special run a you like.
    • Five have so far come back negative and the balance of those results should be available to us today. DH will update us when they are in the position to.
  • Third case:
    • This is the other case that was announced yesterday by the Minister.
    • As was advised that individual exited quarantine and got tested out of an abundance of caution, returning a positive result a day later.
    • Interviews with that person have been conducted and the close contacts and others have all been contact with. There are no exposure sites, that person basically stayed home, so it will only be family members and others, so that is quite contained.
  • Holiday Inn closed:
    • The Holiday Inn at Melbourne Airport has been closed for terminal cleaning. All staff are in isolation and all residents has been moved.
    • Anyone who has been in this facility for more than 15 minutes between 27 January and 9 February is considered a primary close contact. They must immediately isolate, get a test, and stay isolated for 14 days.
  • Flight caps:
    • Premier says he's told the PM that next week's planned increase of international arrivals coming to Melbourne has been paused.
  • Testing:
    • In response to what we expect to be particularly in the northern and western suburbs, increased demand, we are expanding testing efforts particularly in and around the Sunbury areas.
  • Working theory:
SUTTON: "Certainly they are working hypothesis for the Holiday Inn is that three cases are related to an exposure event that involved a medical device so that medical device is called the nebuliser and it vaporises medication or liquid into a fine mist and if that is everything, especially when it is used as medication and someone is infectious or later tests positive, that next up the virus and that missed can be suspended in the air with fine particles. -- mist. We think the exposures are to that event, this nebuliser whereby the method of a virus was carried out into the corridor and expose the authorised officer, the food and beverage service worker and also the other resident. That makes sense in terms of the geography and it makes sense in terms of the exposure time. So that is a risk and in a sense we need to be acutely aware of the possibility of everyone who was under that floor, in particular, being exposed to that. They are all, of course, notified, they are quarantining and will be tested but we have included the entire workforce of the Holiday Inn, all residents and visitors on that basis because the risk is substantial. We should expect more cases but obviously we have wrapped the public health around those individuals and we are going very broadly with the quarantine requirements so we're intending to get ahead of this, we will get of it but it does make sense, in terms of use of that particular medical device."

Other news

Recap from yesterday

A resident of the Hotel Quarantine facility at Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport has tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) after completing their 14-day quarantine and being cleared for release. A strong public health response is now underway that builds on measures already in place.
The individual tested negative a number of times during her quarantine period and departed the facility on 7 February. She sought testing in response to the current outbreak at the Holiday Inn, returning a positive result today, 9 February.
Interviews with the individual are underway. Early indications are that the individual has not left her home since exiting Hotel Quarantine on 7 February, other than to obtain a test in a COVIDsafe setting.
Updates to exposure site locations (if any), primary close contacts and other information will be provided as soon as possible.
Primary close contacts will include past residents of the Holiday Inn who completed their quarantine period on 7 February. They will be required to isolate for 14 days. We are in contact with this group. This will come as difficult news to them, but we are being as cautious as possible in our response to this outbreak.
