Before traveling to Macau, knowing Macau, his history, and his heritage will make travel more interesting.

A Brief History Location & Time Population Language Currency Climate & Clothing Water & Electricity Healthcare & Hospitals Communication

1.A Brief History

Fishermen from Fujian and farmers from Guangdong were the first known settlers in Macao, when it was known as Ou Mun, or “trading gate”, because of its location at the mouth of the Pearl River downstream from Guangzhou (Canton). During ancient times port city was part of the Silk Road with ships loading here with silk for Rome.
Even after China ceased to be a world trade centre, Guangzhou prospered from seaborne business with the countries of Southeast Asia, so the local entrepreneurs welcomed the arrival of Portuguese merchant-explorers. They followed in the wake of Jorge Alvares, who landed in southern China in 1513, and set about finding suitable trading posts.
In the early 1550s the Portuguese reached Ou Mun, which the locals also called A Ma Gao, “place of A Ma”, in honour of the Goddess of Seafarers, whose temple stood at the entrance to the sheltered Inner Harbour. The Portuguese adopted the name, which gradually changes into the name Macao, and with the permission of Guangdong’s mandarins, established a city that within a short time had become a major entrepot for trade between China, Japan, India and Europe.
It also became the perfect crossroad for the meeting of East and West cultures. The Roman Catholic church sent some of its greatest missionaries to continue the work of St Francis Xavier, (who died nearby after making many converts in Japan). A Christian college was built, beside what is now today’s Ruins of St Paul’s, where students such as Matteo Ricci prepared for their work as Christian scholars at the Imperial Court in Beijing. Other churches were built, as well as fortresses, which gave the city an historical European appearance that distinguishes it to this day.
Portugal’s golden age in Asia faded as rivals like the Dutch and British took over their trade. However the Chinese chose to continue to do business through the Portuguese in Macao, so for over a century the British East India Company and others set up shop here in rented houses like the elegant Casa Garden. As Europe’s trade with China grew, the European merchants spent part of the year in Guangzhou, buying tea and Chinese luxuries at the bi-annual fairs, using Macao as a recreational retreat.
Following the Opium War in 1841, Hong Kong was established by Britain and most of the foreign merchants left Macao, which became a quaint, quiet backwater. Nevertheless it has continued to enjoy a leisurely multicultural existence and make daily, practical use of its historical buildings, in the process becoming a favourite stopover for international travellers, writers and artists.
Macao has developed in the past industries such as textiles, electronics and toys, while today has built up world class tourism industry with a wide choice of hotels, resorts, MICE facilities, restaurants and casinos. Macao’s economy is closely linked to that of Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, in particular the Pearl River Delta region, which qualifies as one of Asia’s ‘little tigers’. Macao provides financial and banking services, staff training, transport and communications support.
Today Macao is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, and, like Hong Kong, benefits from the principle of “one country, two systems”. The tiny SAR is growing in size – with more buildings on reclaimed land – and in the number and diversity of its attractions. The greatest of these continues to be Macao’s unique society, with communities from the East and West complementing each other, and the many people who come to visit.

2.Location & Time

Macao is located in Guangdong province, on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta, at latitude 22º 14′ North, longitude 113º 35′ East and connected to Gongbei District by the Border Gate (Portas do Cerco) isthmus.
The Macao Special Administrative Region has an area of 32.9 km², comprised of the Macao Peninsula (9.3 km² and connected to Mainland China), Taipa (7.9 km²), Coloane (7.6 km²), the reclaimed area COTAI (6.0 km²), Zone A of the new district (1.4 km²) and Macao Administration Zone on the Artificial Frontier Island of Zhuhai-Macao of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (0.7km²). Three bridges connect Macao to Taipa (one of them is 2.5 km long, the other one is 4.4 km long and the third one is 2.1 km long).
Besides the Border Gate (Portas do Cerco) – the visitor can access Mainland China through the COTAI Frontier Post. Immigration and Customs is located in the reclaimed area between Taipa and Coloane.
Macao is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

3.Population

The total population is estimated at around 679,600 . Over 90% of Macao residents are ethnic Chinese. The remaining includes Portuguese, Filipino and other nationalities.

By the decision of the Government the Pataca is linked to the Hong Kong dollar (HKD). The exchange rate is MOP103.20 = HKD100.00. There is an acceptable variation up to 10%. Roughly 8 Patacas is equivalent to 1 US Dollar.
Foreign currency can be changed in hotels, banks and authorised exchange dealers located all around the city. The Macau International Airport also provides currency exchange service. Banks open normally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Most credit cards are accepted in many hotels, shops and restaurants.
According to the provisions of the Law, passengers arriving at Macao carrying cash or CBNIs, such as traveller’s cheques, cheques, bills of exchange, money orders and promissory notes, with value of or exceeding MOP 120,000.00, should use the Red Channel with a completed declaration form and make a declaration to the Customs officer. Passengers leaving Macao need to disclose truthfully the amount of cash or CBNIs carried when asked by a Customs officer, or they shall be liable to a fine of MOP 1,000.00 to MOP 500,000.00. Travelers who have a layover in Macao SAR and transit to another destination have no obligation of declaration. Humidity levels are high in the city, where the average annual relative humidity tops 79%. The average annual rainfall measures about 2,058 mm in Macao, with the rainy season falling between May and September every year. The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau will issue a rainstorm warning when the amount of precipitation over Macao is expected to reach about 50 mm in the next two hours.
October to December is the most pleasant season to visit Macao, when visitors can enjoy warm autumn days with low humidity. January, February and March are the winter months with relatively cold but sunny weather, when it slowly gets warm again in April. From May to September, the weather becomes hot and humid with more rainy days and occasional tropical storms (known as typhoons). The level of typhoon warning signals depends on the intensity and proximity of a typhoon to Macao. When signal No. 8 or above is hoisted, the cross-sea bridges will be closed for safety reasons including Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, Friendship Bridge, the upper deck of Sai Van Bridge and Lotus Bridge; as an immediate measure, the enclosed lower deck of Sai Van Bridge will be opened provisionally for light automobiles to commute between Macao and Taipa. Outbound ferries and flights from the city will also be delayed or cancelled.
In summer, visitors are advised to wear light cotton clothes for a pleasant journey in Macao; while woolens are recommended along with a thick jacket or an overcoat to keep warm during winter. It is great to bring along cardigans or sweaters in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) as nights are cooler during the two seasons.

SERO Oriented Scenarios

  1. Supply Chain System: The SERO blockchain system is capable of solving issues relating to upstream and downstream transaction, vouchers and traceability that concerns the supply chain system, they can also make simple the management of supply chain central enterprises and provide correlating solutions for the financing of upstream and downstream enterprises. Be as it is vital data and quantity of goods are facing a lot of pressure of being leaked.
  2. Medical Health : The medical and health industry mostly deals in digital privacy, since everything they do is mostly digitized and computed, it ranges from patients medical results to medical treatment records. SERO looks forward to solve privacy problems in the hospital and other medical sectors.
  3. Online Auction : In the online auction they so much believe in being fair in business, so to make bidding private is highly required, but it has become as hard as tortoise shell, almost impossible because of the difference in interests. SERO looks forward to providing a total safe, independent and a considerate bidding atmosphere.
  4. Online Casino: From the beginning there has always been a restriction on the development of online casino by centralized mechanism. It is very paramount that online casino have a privacy protection for the safety and security of competitors. SERO is sure ready to backup this kind of business.
  5. Online Gaming : Large-scale online games are always in search of token system that will circulate easily, that is easy to trade and settle, and that can be issued and circulated using the smart contract, well SERO is a multi-token system and the only technical solution that is able to circulate and issue homorphoric smart contracts.

Nexus 101 with Facebook Questions and Answers. Please add your own query or concern - Murdock

Start of a Facebook series of comments that I thought I would turn into a Reddit 101 of Nexus and to help answer your concerns and questions.
Anna North: I felt like nexus was great until they started talking about forming their own libertarian nation, it really made me question whether they are too ambitious/unrealistic in their goals 😕

strikethrough

Aaron Berghuber: Colin Cantrell (Nexus founder) was on The Crypto Show podcast recently. He describes Nexus as a feeling and a movement. He's a massive scatter brain and has some out there ideas, some of which have merit. An example is a satellite decentralised network. His old man founded Space X with Elon, it's where he gets his rocket and satellite knowledge from. He has a great ideas but lacks focus and some of his views are cult like. It's turned a lot of people away.
Maxwell Conway: I think nexus would be a long way off working if it would work at all. Firstly the rockets have never flown and have a tiny payload. The cube sats are also very small and have limited power. Therefore not great for constantly transmitting ie what you would need for internet. Sounds like they normally use them to collect data which uses less power and burst stream when in perfect alignment to a dish on earth. I have limited knowledge of this stuff. This is just what I have gathered from a friend who works with satellites quite a bit.

strikethrough

Murdock: Anna North, Roger Ver, for all of you that dont know is the original Investor in Bitcoin. Regardless of what he spoke about at the conference, it has no relationship to the Nexus coins idea at all. Nor do any of the other speakers at the conference besides Kierre Reeg, David North (biggest Insurance provider in the world = sedgwick who paid for part of the conference), Colin Cantrell (Nexus founder) and his father Jim Cantrell from Vector Space Systems.
Aaron Berghuber, Colin might appear to be a scatter brain, but if you got the to the bottom of what they are doing, you might realise that he is quite the genius. Cult like is an over exaggeration of your idea of supporters. I would say Cult like behavior is throwing around personal judgement in the intention of holding profits because the idea of Nexus poses a threat to bitcoin (when in fact wants to work along side of it) and all other coins less superior in vision and technology.
Maxwell Conway, You couldnt be further from the facts mate but I will help you out.
Here are an ample amount of videos showing the Vector Space Systems rocket taking off without an issue ;)
-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPRGmjY67c4 -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeLxzteo7wE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlY09YT7Pyo
Last video is Jim Cantrell talking and exhibiting the Vector R rocket at the Kennedy Space Agency.. If that isnt a big feat I dont know what is :) > Either way, the facts speak for themselves and the rocket launches are real and ever more occurring.
The statement on limited functionality also is a misconception. Everything these days is getting smaller and more robust. Satellites are not exempt from that. I would STRONGLY urge you to watch these two videos of Jim Cantrell (who i met in person and is legit the rocket man) explaining how this technology is going to work, and how Galactic Sky (Vectors subsidiary) is going to allow for the hardware capable of running CITRIX (biggest VM platform in the world) On their devices which Nexus protocol will be running on.
(finding videos now - will edit OP)
I must admit, the slack Nexus gets from the community at large just goes to show how little the technology is understood. I wont even go into mentioning the 3D blockchain as lots of peoples ideas on Tokens and Currencies are skewered into false realities. Blockchains are a lateral representation of a distributed ledger. When it backlogs, you all know what happens to the price and ability to move coins around. I am happy to help and or show people "the light" if thats what we want to call it. But i seriously hope people reconsider the "cult" accusations while your only in this game for profits.... (or gainz) if your that way inclined.
The basis for a decentralized internet is not for y'all to watch your porn and do your trading on... Think bigger. Think just enough bandwidth to BEGIN with that one flyover of a Country be it 1hr - 10hrs - 24hrs exposure will give the people below the ability to transact value at the VERY least. The one thing that keeps an economy moving is the ability for the network to not be intercepted, taken down, and or you told as an individual of a minority group cant use this service for X Y & Z.
The Network IN THE FUTURE will be able to handle the bandwidth and the frequencies required for developers to then BUILD on top of with services like Google, Platforms like Apple and Amazon and websites that the average consumer can upload to like I can when i build a wordpress website today.
This is a huge endeavour and some are buying Casino coins to get rich while some are really trying to change the way the world interacts with each other in every instance of the word.
Without a decentralised internet built in space with minimal overheads and ability to connect to the network, mine on the network and never have the worry of it going down ,is paramount in helping bridge a global economy and or ideas. Just depends on your ideas of what the blockchain can do for humanity other than filling up my savings account in fiat which everyone doesnt want in the long run :)

strikethrough

Anna North: Thanks for clarifying Murdock. I’m not trying to be disparaging, but is it fair to assume that if they have big names talking about this stuff at their conference (and going so far as to say they’ve already commenced discussions with governments), that it fits with their overarching vision as an organisation? Don’t get me wrong, I’m drawn to nexus... but where do we differentiate between the things that were discussed at the conference that do have a relationship to their project/coin vs the things discussed at the conference that don’t have a relationship to their project/coin?

strikethrough

Murdock: Anna North It would be fair I concur. However The idea behind the Nexus conference isnt to Shill and or Spam Nexus to the masses. It wants to act like a TED talks idea within the crypto space and that alone. THere is no hidden agenda behind hosting it. Sure, we get some advertising 100%! . But we are also sponsoring it and thats why its called the Nexus Conference.
The definition of Nexus is "a series of connections between two or more things" :) And nexus wants to do that with ideas around the blockchain. I didnt like Roger Ver before the conference, trust me :) I dont even like his Government Idea (its hugely ambitious - more so than Nexus haha) > but he was just a speaker, trying to change a part of the world with his money and ideas and dreams.
Nexus doesnt align itself with any of the speakers other than wanting them to come, talk, mingle and learn essentially.
Peoples ideas on the conference got skewed when people relate this conference, to a conference like NEO where it was 100% neo this NEO that, NEO and Chinese gov. And wanted profits. Unfortunately NXS is down from the conference due to those exact expectations.
Keen to help anyone learn more.

strikethrough

Murdock: Sorry if anyone feels like im being too defensive of Nexus. Ive just had a big week "defending" a project thats truly got a vision without being shortsighted and or built on shitty platforms and code. I dont defend it to hold my portfolio up anymore than its already dropped haha. Im down well over 10 years worth of an avg salary haha but not phased even in the slightest

strikethrough

Anna North: Murdock that must be where I’ve gone wrong, thanks for explaining it. They might benefit from clarifying that more broadly!

strikethrough

Murdock: Not a problem Anna North :) I hope people find some solace if they are down on their investment by reading the above comments.

strikethrough

Aaron Berghuber: I agree he's a genius and the vision is grand. However I have no faith in his leadership and direction after hearing him on that podcast.

strikethrough

Murdock: Fair call. Fortunately for us and everyone involved, the coins vision and or design doesn't need to rely solely on Colin now. In the event he passed away from some freak accident or something we have another 7 developers on board all capable from my understanding of implementing the code base and learning to build on top of it. And because everyone votes on what happens with the future implementations of the product, it remains fair.
Lot of people HATED Steve jobs and his vision and or ability to sell a product to the likes of many. However, Apple changed the world.
Just something to walk away with bro :)

strikethrough

Aaron Berghuber: He was very focused on problem solving and sharing to benefit all crypto which I really appreciate. However I wouldn't invest in a company that freely gives away any competitive advantage.

strikethrough

Murdock: That's a fair point Aaron Berghuber. However I would only take how what he says in the same way Satoshi gave everyone the idea of the blockchain to do with as they please.
I believe Colin's idea behind the 3D blockchain is to do the exact same however provide people with a new set of tools and a new sand pit to build in. There is no need to patent blockchain technology as its still a primitive platform (and ever expanding.) which we all currently use and expect to scale for even a third of the worlds population which it just wont. Nor BTC, Nor ETH and not even Nexus ATM (tritium implements 3D blockchain and its just around the corner) but will soon enough.
Vector Space Systems on the other hand who is really the provider of a lot of our resources now and in the future will patent the shit out of anything and everything they can i assure you. Galactic sky already has 2 patents accepted and plenty more under filing (hence why a lot of the technology explanations wont come from Nexus , but Vector as its "theirs"). Jim Cantrell said to me in person that "we are going to be a money making machine" (we as in Vector ) haha so i can assure you, Elon wont be getting his hands on any of this technology :)

strikethrough

Murdock: I will say also that the 3D blockchain is not forkable so in some way a hard programmed patent?

strikethrough

Chad Ollenburg: Think someone drank too much of the coolaid at the conference.

strikethrough

Murdock: Hell mature for a father... Only here to help people but will continue to do less of that the more I personally get insulted. Shame lol

strikethrough

Reece Griffith: Murdock you articulate your position well, thank you for putting in the time and effort.

strikethrough

Murdock: Appreciated Reece Griffith. Thanks for the kind words.

strikethrough

Maxwell Conway: Sorry Murdock I should be more specific. I mean flown commercially. Is there only this one test launch? Has it reached orbit?

strikethrough

Jared Smith: I still don't really see how the cube sats will be able to transmit data in any meaningful way. Also not sure why they would opt to use these rockets instead of putting the payload on a commercial rocket. I don't really have a comment for any other part of the project, it's just these two things specifically that throw me off big time.

strikethrough

Aaron Berghuber: Jared, think of it as an opt-in emergency network if the internet gets turned off or censored or if using crypto has criminal penalties. You'd still be able to make payments.

strikethrough

Murdock: Maxwell Conway Hey Max, Vector has launched over 3 different sub orbital flights thus far and all being a huge success. Yes it isn't a commercial run nor is it ready JUST yet however the first Low earth orbit launch is in a month I believe And after that I believe its full steam ahead for the crew at Vector.
Also take in to consideration that these rockets are not and will not be designed to go to geosynchronous orbit. LOE (low earth orbit) as that's where Vector is tapping into the market.
Jared Smith, please give me an approx figure as to why you think its cheaper to whack about 8 cube satellites per launch on a commercial rocket ? (let alone if the shitty little project you might be conjuring up, DOESNT meet their requirements as a recommended payload passenger ;) )
The cube satellites without a doubt have the communication abilities to talk to each other. I am no rocket scientist, nor want to be haha. I dont understand the Technology powering satellites at all so I wont even bother to begin to lie to you all but I would urge to watch Jim Cantrell's speeches. If you want to learn, LEARN. If you want to be fed information, well im sorry i cant help with this part.
And Aaron Berghuber you are most definitely correct.
A lot of people not just here have no immediate idea of the way the internet runs today, what runs on the internet and what would happen IF (being key word), the Gov decided to shut down the transcontinental communications lines.... (95% of IP traffic runs through it). Fair enough, but if the internet dropped out world wide tomorrow morning for WHATEVER reason. The world suddenly goes to shit and everyone's left with their hands in their pockets lol...
Please take a read of this article that was released two days ago on the perils of centralised internet. If your in Bitcoin for a quick buck, please dont even take a look at Nexus as it isnt for you. If your in this whole ecosphere as you generally believe the technology will revolutionize the way we transact and exchange value, buy Nexus as its the only logical option among so many shit coins and clones (apparently the best thing to buy ? )

Jared Smith: Murdock you don't pay the whole bill to launch a small payload. A commercial rocket might have dozens of parties footing the bill paying fair ratios depending on the weight and complexity of their payload. It's not just NASA and spaceX that are in the commercial rocket industry...

strikethrough

Aaron Berghuber: During natural disasters like hurricanes, people create mesh networks to link to critical information. Nexus are doing the same before the disaster (censorship, privacy, removal of services).
Colin Cantrell raised a brilliant point that all our tech relies on the internet in its current form and there really aren't that many ISP's. It's an oligopoly and in some instances a monopoly. This can be a big point of failure and huge downstream consequences for us.
I'm not all tin foil hat but I do like options.

strikethrough

Murdock: Still wont cost you $3 million USD lol...
Please take a read of the source below. It still costs an absorbent amount of money. Now lets get into WHY we as a project and Vector as a Company nor need to worry about the prices and "why arent we just using XXXX'"
Vector upon signing the Contract will be given a "Ambassador Key" . How these keys will work are as follows;
Its a given that Vector Space Systems will have an ambassador key so they over time continue to receive a revenue from the transactions happening on the network to further develop and subsidise the rocket launches and costs for Nexus to have a foot in the door with space industry.
In the event Vector wasnt delivering the goods and services that we as a community signed up for and agreed to, the contract would be revoked. The Fee payout to vector would then go into the reserves and or distributed to one of the other 12 Ambassadors or evenly between them.
So in short, Nexus doesn't need to pay millions out of our pockets to launch satellites for everyone else benefit. The network pays for it just like the network pays to keep miners securing the coin which in turn secures your money and the ability to safely rely on the Network at all times.
And at $3M USD for a rocket, that is predominantly 3D printed and efficient as hell, like Jim said "We will be making rockets like sausages". And if you dont know how to take that, absorb it in the sense of manufacturing ability and scale of launches...

strikethrough

Murdock: Exactly that Aaron Berghuber. And its not like Nexus is directly going to replace Bitcoin nor does it aim to do that. Nexus seeks to be that immutable ledge based in space (think boose cruise and gambling cruises) that accounts for EVERY transaction (which ETH and BTC cant do - hence side chains) which wont backlog, which will scale and be efficient and quantum resistant as nothing is quantum proof... That alone is a big thing people need to work their heads around. All it takes is one super computer (that the public may never know about before hand) and see ya later 256bit encryption along with all our private keys and the ability for a Sybil attack to be immediate and effective rendering all cryptos dead

Further Questions are welcome. Please post them in line with how the content above has been laid out to keep it all easy to read. Kind Regards, Murdock

Missouri Repugnicans: Creating One Self-Inflicted Crisis after another in this state, just so we can become like Kansas

What up, my Missouri peeps. I am Vector Calculus. And I know what's up in this state. I used to be a conservative, until I realized how good the Republican party was at handling crisises (No armor for OUR troops. Katrina response. Picking presidential candidates and their running mates.)
Let's face it, the conservative movement in this country ate a big bowl of stupid for breakfast, and they're now asking for 43rds.
On the state level, it isn't any better.
As our state legislature tries to play out the clock with the time left in this years General Assembly, hundreds of Missourians have no place to work at. There are companies in this state that are hiring, just not locally. It's not just a problem in our state, but nation wide. I don't recall how many times I've punched into Indeed.com for a job at one of those new data centers in St. Louis and explicitly set the email reminders on the websites I was using to only give me companies in the St. Louis area because I really can not afford to move anywhere else, only to get daily e-mail offers for jobs that aren't relevant to the content on my resume, in places like New Jersey and Michigan.
Let me re-iterate that. I cannot afford to move elsewhere and I know of the new data centers that are hiring in St. Louis but they are not interested in hiring people from missouri.
What the hell did they move to our state for? The weather?
Surely our state's Department of Economic Development and the Missouri Division of Vocational Rehabilitation can see what's going on here. Unless of course, they don't have enough money allocated in the state budget to look into it.
DED has tried setting up a job website several times in the past decade. All of them flopped because none of these new Missouri businesses would consider spreading the word about their company. Not with DED, not with private websites like Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, or even Craigslist (where in both St. Louis and Kansas City, posting job offers is FREE). Even if they had their own website for job listings, I guess it is just too hard for them to spread the word to local jobseekers as it is with generic jobs like CDL companies and Nurse Staffing Firms. I signed up with Manpower and a couple of other temp agencies, and God forbid they call me up.
But why isn't any of that happening? The truth is, they think they can make more money by creating this stupid ass "China Hub"/"Cargo City" at the cost of the tax payers, even going as far as to attempt to pay for it by making North St. Louis County residents who were hit by a tornado in the Spring of 2011 take a cut in storm relief. It didn't happen, thankfully. Partially because one of the Chinese representatives discovered someone from Taiwan would also be using it. The PRC and the ROC governments aren't exactly simpatico. So you can imaging how that collapsed just because of one company.
Needless to say, this is one of the many "zombie issues" that just won't stay dead at the GA, as it has come back again on the table.
So while our state government waists their time trying to impress the incredibly fickle Chinese government, the DED sees the number of job placement offices get sacked. Let's face it. This site isn't exactly the best place to look for a job considering their are only about 25,000 records in the system. Using Indeed, you could find 100 times that assuming it didn't re-post the same records every day.
Next up on my list of greivances: the Missouri Department of Public Saftey. Home of Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Missouri is one of the few states in this country that is the butt of a lot of meth jokes. And while MSHP is doing it's best to fight off the influx of drugs and meth making operations in this state, our state legislature continues to find ways to trip up our Smokeys. Namely in this legislature, the Highway Patrol found itself in the crosshairs of austerity, accusing the highway patrol of having too much power. To be honest, it wasn't until a tornado hit my granparents neighborhood that I finally saw a MSHP car in about two years. This crazy nonsense that MSHP is incahoots with "the liberal federal government" is preposterous. The ban on drone aircraft in this state doesn't help MSHP use drones to detect ammonia anomalies in rural Missouri where meth cooks could be hiding. It also doesn't help the Missouri Department of Natural Resources monitor landfill emissions or superfund sites in our state with the help of the EPA because "The EPA is an evil conspiracy". (Fun fact: The EPA was established in 1970 by President Richard Milhouse Nixon, a republican. He's also responsible for establishing Amtrak which saved the passenger rail industry. It's a shame it doesn't stop in Springfield, Missouri. Making part of the Missori Pacific Rail Road could have saved a lot of towns along I-44/Route 66 from falling into disrepair and poverty.)
It's funny how our state republicans want to be champions in the "War Against Drugs", when they sabatoge themselves by letting the cartels and the dealers freely pass through this state more easily thanks to their disinvestment in new technologies.
The drone ban also doesn't help the American economy as many of the anti-drone bills are written to prohibit the manufacturing of unmanned aircraft, and thusly the people who want to buy them have to get them from foreign manufacturers. Way to support the state economy, guys.
Meanwhile, several law enforcement agencies in this state, including the State Highway Patrol, have been HACKED in the past decade. Again, disinvestment in technology has made our state more vulerable to identity theif or the public display of confidential information.
Yet, when comparing the recent self-created crisis with the Department of Revenue recording gun ownership information, these more serious problems are treated as secondary issues.
BTW, DOR was also hacked last decade. Some one got a list of personal information files in 2005. Again, treated as if it was no big deal. But hey, when your elected officials pick a private contractor to record license information for the state tax code, and then make it so that you don't do a background check on the company you hired that is doing background checks on folks who own guns and the MANY MORE WHO DON'T OWN GUNS, and then try to blame Governor Nixon for the problem you recreated back when Matt Blunt and Ed Martin didn't think deleting e-mail records was such a big deal, AND THEN want to say that you are doing what you can to protect JUST THE GUN OWNERS instead of EVERYBODY who had their ID sold NOT JUST TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT after a recent school massacre but to marketing groups and hacker well before there was a NewTown or a Virginal Tech for that matter, YOU DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT EVERYBODY! Just the few constituents you have, who go to your church, who pay you money, who BUY YOU LUNCH IN EXCHANGE FOR A VOTE!
It's quite funny how the last time I was in Jefferson City I had to brown bag my own lunch while pushing for the public appeal to help folks with head injuries, while two doors down from the conference room I was eating lunch in was the basement cafeteria with a stack of Krispe Kream and Jimmy Johns boxes that some lobbying group gave them. So tell me how our state isn't corrupted by folks who stand to profit well enough to hire their own lobbying firm and give them lunches, breakfasts, baseball tickets, and other kickbacks.
The real reason drones are now banned in this state isn't the invasion of privacy upon everyday people or to just help drug trafficking and ban the EPA. But to allow Corporate Agricultural Farming Operations to dump MILLIONS OF GALLONS of animal excrement, animal entrails, chemical laced farm wastes into streams and rivers. And they will obstruct the more benevolent uses of drones just so that they can continue to break the law, pollute the water downstream, and poison anyone who comes in contact with this water.
Yes, IN CONTACT. The Mallenkrot Corporation did it for years in North St. Louis County by dumping radioactive materials into Coldwater Creek. There are many people in North St. Louis County, especially in Florissant, who have come down with many forms of cancer, lupus, birth defects, even died, because they didn't know the creek had been contaminated. But the Department of Natural Resources can't do a whole lot of to monitor the area or to get the EPA or the US Army Corps of Engineers to transport the remains of these cold war byproducts buried in a local landfill from leaking into the groundwater and eventually the water supply. For some reason, they state doesn't have the money. Especially now that you have Monsanto doing most of the poisoning these days through genetically modified crops and agri-chemicals that damage the environment and make people sick while making a windfall doing it.
But the GA is OK with the Big M giving everyone the Big C so as long as they get paid.
Ditto for Ameren, who thank to building the state's only nuclear power plant (which fortunately has been build on a hill about a mile from the river unlike many of the other nuclear plants upstream on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers which have been threatened with flooding and possible nuclear contamination of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers). While Union Electric had the forsight to no build something so hazardous so close to our state's most precious natural resource, the folks at Ameren aren't so bright. The Calloway Plant in Fulton provides Jefferson City and much of mid-Missouri with power. Ameren give it to the state for gratis, so as long as they get what they want.
But when Prop C passed in 2007, encouraging the state to pursue more solar and wind alternatives, Ameren, now six years on, has been fighting tooth and nail to gut this voter approved proposal. The Carnahan family has a wind farm in Northwest Missouri. But thanks to our state repugnicans, not of that power is used IN MISSOURI. Meanwhile, Iowa, Nebraska, and even their favorite state Kansas, have returned a profit on wind energy production. But Missouri is prohibited from having that. Which makes it a perfect target for Karl Rove to assault the Carnahans come election time.
Never mind that Missourians WANT renewable energy, and that many more of them aren't as stupid as the Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association think we are. (Isn't that just great! Everything that is bad for you and the environment, conveniently packaged into one lobbying group: The boycott of both renewable energy and cigarette taxes. It's like Philip Morris and the lady from the American Petroleum Institute ads had a baby and this was their love child.) As if calling oil, natural gas, "clean coal", nuclear power, and the KXL project are "green alternatives". (They are called "alternatives" because you get to pick from the list of power source that THEY provide because they've made a fortune off of it.) But that doesn't stop the disinformation, or the fact that they can will control in the GA.
They also don't seem to be big fans of Mass Transit. Despite the photo-ops of your congressman pumping a bus full of CNG, they're never there to keep the mass transit system funded. Especially not the parts that don't stop at the baseball stadium, or the luxourious TAX PAYER FUNDED football team that let go of their most valuable player.
But hey, the schools aren't doing as well as that casino that promised to help the schools. They want to put a Blues Museum in the city (which I always though Memphis was the birthplace of the Blues), and all the people who need mass transit for other than being a fun way to the baseball game still have to wait 45 minutes for their other bus that if the two buses weren't diverted to the train station, would have only been a 15 minute bus ride rather than a 90 minute road trip.
So hazaa to our general assembly for doing their best to make Missouri more like Kansas, ignoring those in need, for being there at the ribbon cutting and the tax breaks but not at the career fair or unemployment line, for putting their own self interests first, and everybody else second.
I hope you all get KICKED OUT come next election and that NO ONE from your party runs to keep up your circlejerk ceremonies.
